CQC Announce New Style Inspections

Once again this week, we find our industry in the news for all the wrong reasons. ITV yesterday covered a story looking into complaints surrounding care in residential and nursing homes on their 'Good Morning Britain' show.
Since the Local Government Ombudsman (LGO) took responsibility for registered private care providers in 2009 they have seen a 130% increase in complaints. In the last year alone there has been an increase of 14% based on 2013, which saw a total of 2456 complaints.
Whilst being interviewed, a CQC spokesman revealed a new style of inspection was to be introduced later this year. Inspectors will be charged with answering the following five questions about services: are they safe, effective, caring, responsive and well led? Rather than being compliance led - have you passed or failed each standard? The focus will be on making judgements based on informed evidence in respect of these questions.

Now more than ever it is time to reset the focus back on ‘person centred care’, but with so many new regulations “paper work” is set to become more time consuming  than ever before. Computer systems and specialised software packages are becoming a necessary tool to assist with daily care management, reviews, assessments and reporting. When the CQC announce an inspection, Instead of searching through years of paperwork and handwriting wouldn’t it be nice to just click on a button and find exactly what you need?

Ablyss systems provide a fully comprehensive care management solution that can help you achieve this.

CMS Desktop will manage all of your resident and employee information from all aspects of care planning through to training and rotas.  The core product ensures that you never miss a review and more importantly, everything is stored in an audit trail meaning that you can monitor everything that your staff record.

CMS Touch, the touch screen solution, is designed for quick and easy use, prompting staff with a series of pre-defined multiple choice care tasks and routines. The series of templates guide the user and bypass language and literacy barriers.

CMS Tablet,  like her sister  CMS Touch, is a simple to use, touch screen daily care management system, with the added  feature of being fully portable and set for use out of Wi-Fi range. A much welcome addition to the CMS family!

Liverpool Care Show - A Meeting of Minds

Care professionals in and around Liverpool will see the return of Care Roadshows to the spectacular venue of Aintree Racecourse on the 3rd June this year, where entry is once again free.  Educational seminars, a variety of exhibitors and cookery demonstrations will keep visitors updated with the ideas and changes within the healthcare sector while the networking areas provide the perfect place for professionals to connect and share their experiences.

Exhibition stands will be showcasing a wide range of products and services targeted at the healthcare sector from care plan systems and medicines management to laundry equipment and moving and handling solutions.  Discuss the needs of your care setting, try out products on the day and see what’s new to the market that can help you develop your care home.

Throughout the day bite sized seminars will be taking place, which are free of charge to attend. Starting the day off, a dementia design focused seminar from the DSDC will look at how to make a care environment dementia friendly to help reduce the trauma of moving from home.  It will consider the impact that an environment has on dementia patients and will look at some simple principles of interior design to work with this.

The CQC will speak in the afternoon about recent organisational restructures within the CQC and the latest changes to the methodologies for the inspection of adult social care services.  This seminar will be followed by Sheila Scott from the National Care Association discussing the topic ‘Are you ready for the Care Bill?’.

Since nutrition plays such an important part in healthcare, Care Roadshows will host three cookery demonstrations throughout the day from the Cordon Vert Cookery School.  Chef Alex Connell will demonstrate simple meal ideas suitable for vegetarians and meat eaters alike.  A seminar from apetito will also look at food within care settings and the issue of how you create nutritious, appealing meals for those with swallowing difficulties.  Don’t miss the chance to try apetito’s food for yourself at the show, as the proof is in the pudding!

Ablyss Systems will be exhibiting at the show on Stand 20 and will have their CMS software available for demonstrations throughout the day.   We will be there from 9.30am-3pm and hope to see you there.

Entry, seminars and workshops are all free.
